Tyler Hamilton, retired professional cyclist and Olympic Gold Medalist, founded THT™ in 2009.
While a member of the University of Colorado Ski Team, Tyler broke his back in a training accident. He turned to the bike for rehab, and found himself the National Collegiate Cycling Champion by the end of that year!
His professional career was launched in 1995 where he began racing on the US Postal Service Cycling Team for seven seasons. He raced with USPS through 2001, and is remembered most for his gallant efforts in protecting his teammate, Lance Armstrong, through the tough and dangerous mountain stages of the Tour de France.
Tyler has been teammates and ridden along side some of the world’s most talented and courageous professional cyclists. Former teammates include Americans George Hincapie, Levi Leipheimer, and Christian VandeVelde, as well as European stars Laurant Jalabert, Frank Schleck, and Carlos Sastre.
In 2002 Tyler left the USPS team for the CSC Cycling Team, where he was appointed team leader. A crash during the 2002 Giro d’Italia resulted in a shoulder fracture, but Tyler still managed 2nd overall while winning a stage! Tyler experienced many highlights during his career, but is most known for his valiant performance in the 2003 Tour de France. Tyler crashed and broke his collarbone during the first stage — everyone thought it was over. Tyler not only finished the tour that year, but he won the mountainous stage 16 and came through in 4th overall!
Tyler was known in the professional peloton for his amazing career achievements, but also for his humble persona and empathetic personality.
Tyler Hamilton raced professionally for 14 years. He raced in 11 grand tours including the Tour de France eight times, and in the Olympic Games of 2000 and 2004.
